Poole Athletic Club

About Poole AC

Poole AC is a well established club with training sessions run by an experienced and effective team of coaches, who have a record of developing athletes through to international honours. We were the first athletics club in Dorset to receive Clubmark status and look to organise social and sporting occasions for members such as BBQ’s, parties & internal competitions.

As part of Team Dorset (composite team) in the UK YDL Upper age-group (UAG) we won our Division and were promoted to Division South Premier 2. In 2016 we believe this will involve matches as far away as Essex and Norfolk.

We also run regular XC Training on Saturday mornings, if there are no XC competitions.

At other times of the week there are training sessions on the road and indoors, organised by individual coaches, depending on their event.

At your first visit, athletes (or parents) will be asked to complete an Induction Form, giving basic details for future communications.

During the summer season (April – September) we are involved in five Leagues covering all age-groups from U11 up to Senior Men and Women.

In two we compete as Poole AC, and in three as part of Team Dorset.

Athletes need to be full Club members to be considered for selection.

During the winter (September - March) there are competitions in Sports Hall Athletics plus Road Running, Cross-Country, and major Indoor competitions..

While we try to enter athletes in their perceived “better” events, in order to gain the best points for the Club, they may be asked to be flexible and attempt other less familiar events. Thus they should be encouraged to train on a variety of events.

Wessex Young Athletes League

This is an ideal starter league for Young Athletes to compete in. Age range from 11 years to u20. This league also includes QUADKIDS which is for our younger athletes 8 to 10 years of age who compete in 75m, 600m, Long Jump and Howler. Wessex and Quadkids are contested on the same day/venue and held on Sundays. There are four matches each during the summer months.

South West League

This league is for athletes from the age of 11 up to veteran level. There are four matches which are held on Sundays throughout the summer months.

The programme of events alternates (A and B) to cover the whole range of events for this broad age-range.

UK Youth Development League

In this League we compete as part of Team Dorset www.teamdorsetathletics.co.uk which consists of four clubs, Poole AC, Wimborne AC, Weymouth SPH, and Dorchester AC.

This League is split into 2 separate age groups, Lower (u13-u15) & Upper (u17-u20) Each age-group competes in 4 matches on separate days / venues on Saturday or Sunday.

Competition standards are a little higher in this league and athletes are selected from each of the four clubs based on their performances and confirmed availability.

Athletes who have been chosen will be contacted by their Team Managers/Coaches.

Southern Athletics League

This targets athletes aged 17 years up to veterans in five matches held on Saturdays. In this League again we compete as part of Team Dorset, www.teamdorsetathletics.co.uk

a composite team of the four clubs, Poole AC, Wimborne AC, Weymouth SPHAC, & Dorchester AC. Senior specifications are used on both track and field.

Please keep an eye on the fixtures page as throughout the year there may be other competitions/Championships and open events that we compete in either as a club or as individual athletes.
