Congratulations to Adam Sloane, the only Poole AC competitor, who finished fifth in the U17 men's race in the ECCA Saucony Challenge series at Parliament Hill Fields in London, clocking 16 min 38 sec for approximately 5km

U15 GIRLS WIN SW CROSS COUNTRY RELAY TITLE

Poole AC under 15 girls squad produced a convincing win in the inaugural South West X Country Relay Races at Kings College Taunton on 26/10.

The Under 15 team with Lauren Welch leading off, before handing over to Shelby Haysom who then passed to Grace Howie on the anchor leg, to take the team title by a significant 58 secs over the 3 mile distance.

Grace Howie's time was fast enough for equal fastest time of the day in her age group with Shelby recording the 3rd fastest time.

2008 UIPM BIATHLE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cape Town, South Africa, Saturday 1st November 2008

On Sunday the 1st November athletes, Africa Mason, Grace Howie and Melissa Courtney took part at the biathle world championships at Cape Town South Africa.

Grace Howie and Melissa Courtney both won Gold medals in their respective age groups.

Grace won her race which consisted of a 500m run followed by a 100m swim and finished with another 500m run in a winning time of 5m 29.77secs

Africa Mason just missed out on a medal behind grace finishing in 5th place in a time of 5m 44.52 (just 1.08 seconds from 3rd place)

Melissa Courtney won her Race in a time of 11.36.56
Melissa’s race was over the longer course which started off with a 1000m run then followed by a 200m swim and finished with yet another 1000m run.

Our Under 15 Girls A team held on gallantly for the bronze medal by a mere 1 second from Milton Keynes. Grace Howie despite suffering from a painful shoulder handed over to Danielle Shrosbree in 7th position on leg 1 with a time of 10.41 the 10th quickest of the day. Danni then overtook 5 runners, (but Aldershot overtook her) to finish in 3rd spot in a time of 11.18 before Shelby Haysom produced a top 20 individual time of 11.05 to maintain the teams 3rd position. This was a real team effort as Poole AC's 2nd team also produced a fine 29th team out of 61, with Africa Mason running a storming 11.19, handing over to Georgia Stalley who recorded a time of 13.58, with Lauren Welch running the 8th best anchor leg in 11.21 Although sadly unable to complete a C Team Sophie Allen showed her recent huge improvement with an impressive time of 13.03.

Melissa Courtney posted the 2nd fastest U17 time of the day to bring our Under 17 team through first with a time of 10.21; Kathryn Lewer took over and held on gallantly in a time of 12.03 for 5th position. Katie Allen took over and despite having recently suffered from illness worked hard to bring the team home in 15th spot.

The Under 15 boys of Sam Ham, Tim Worth, William Gourlay and Simon Card attained a very creditable 31st position.

Finally our Under 17 boys, who are all first year runners, finished a very creditable 21st position thanks to consistent runs from Richard Horton, George Atkins, Alex Sampson and Adam Sloane.

A long day, but the Poole AC girls again showed their standing on a national stage by finishing 4th in the U15 Girls and 20th in the Under 17 women.

Gracie Howie again led the team off on a strong first leg of the 3.85K leg, to complete the course in 7th position in 14.08 mins, Danni Shrosbree took over and made up one place although within a mere 4 secs of 4th position with a time of 14.49. The anchor leg was run by Shelby Haysom (Time 14.47) who took 3 individuals but sadly could not see off the advances of Katie Reynolds of East Cheshire and Tameside and finished a mere 13 secs away from repeating the bronze medal position achieved at Aldershot in the Southern Road Relays, but ahead of 62 other teams

Sophie Allen and Kirsten Holmes Evans also ran well with times of 18.08 and 18.09
on this hills course.

Our Under 17 team also performed well with Katie Allen Leading the team off (17.23) handing over to Kathryn Lewer who made up 12 places with her time of 15.51 before Melissa Courtney also reduced the deficit bt 12 to bring the team home with a time of 47.30.

Africa Mason, Melissa Courtney & Grace Howie all won medals
At Salford Quays in Manchester (Sunday, 3rd August).

Melissa won Youth B Girls (U17) 1k run/200m swim/1k run

Grace Howie won Youth C Girls (15) 500m run/100m swim/500m run with Africa Mason 2nd

They all now qualify to represent GB in South Africa at the end of October 2008.

Melissa and Africa competed in the British Triathlon Youth Aquathlon competition the previous weekend in Bryn Bach Tredegar South Wales 550m swim and 2.5K run where Melissa finished 1st and Africa 2nd which gave both girls good experience in triathlon competitions

South of England Senior/U20 Championships

Melissa Courtney made her Crystal Palace debut with a gold medal at the South of England Championships, taking the U17 3000m title in 10:04.51
U-15 Team-mates Grace Howie fourth in a time of 10:24.57 and Shelby Haysom sixth 10:54.31 both achieving a personal best.
