INTER COUNTIES XC (Nottingham)

A group of our top Cross Country runners, many of whom were wearing the green Dorset vest for the first time took on the hills and remarkably dry Wollaton Park Course on 7/3/09 and proved their quality against the very best runners from across the UK.


In the Under 13 Girls debutant Dani Burry 247th in 15.59 for the 3K run, being 5th Dorset runner home.

In the Under 13 Boys Louis Kellaway still with another year in this age group was first Dorset athlete home in 53rd in 13.22 for 3K and will no doubt make further progress next year.

In the Under 15 Girls Grace Howie recently held back due to a hamstring injury led the Dorset team home in 59th place in 16.20 over 4K with Africa Mason 2nd and Shelby Haysom 3rd Dorset scorers in 124th and 130th position with 17.04 and 17.05 (yes 6 places in less than 1 second). Late reserve Sophie Allen did herself proud with a fine 275th position with over 30 athletes behind her in a time of 19.02

The Under 15 boys saw new second claim runner Benedict Westhenry finish 45th in 16.10 over 4.5K with Ben Mogg an fine 139th in 16.51 for 3rd Dorset athlete home.

The Under 17 women saw Melissa Courtney again produce a solid run in 35th in 19.59. Abigail Jones is showing her credentials as one to watch in 2009 with a very impressive debut with 78th in 20.55 for 2nd Dorset athlete home, Katie Allen showed her resolve in finishing despite feeling 100% in 220th in 23.54 over 5KM

Our Under 17 Men continued to impress in what has been a sensational season. Second Claim Frank Bailey finishing 1st Dorset athlete in 35th in 21.40. Just behind with 21.46 came Richard Horton in 41st. Adam Sloan continued his development with 21.54 for 51st, with second claim Freddie Cook 203rd in 23.44
The U17M finished a remarkable 5th team, with all 4 counters being young enough to count in 2010!

In the U20 Women our sole representative was Becky Neal who continued her return to form with 134th in 29.07 for 6K

In the U20 Men James Whittle showed his hard work in training is paying off with an excellent 160th in 33.28 with new signing Nathaniel Epton in 175th in 35.10 over 8K.

The senior men's race is a very high quality race. Joe Warden in only his 3rd XC event finished a fine 257th in 45.35 over 12K for 5th Dorset scorer, with Alan Metcalfe in 288th in 49.09.
